New Shopping Possibilities for the Compliments Card

With new retail space opening at both Melrose Arch and Sandton City in the near future,
both merchants and consumers have reason to be excited.
Melrose Arch is a multi-use retail, commercial and residential space tailored to suit and
cater for every aspect of life in a city with a characteristic traditional Africa meets
European town square ambience.
Initially launched in February 2002 with the total of residents and people working in Melrose
Arch totaling 4000, this number will grow to an approximate 22,000 by completion of the
current developments. The retail development alone will provide an additional 28,000 m²
retail and leisure space. The multiple developments currently underway, and scheduled for a
final completion date in 2010, have an estimated value of R1.5-billion.
Sandton City, another landmark retail centre is planning a R1.7-billion expansion. The first
phase, which will include the refurbishment of the current mall, will see 30,000m² of retail
floor space added to the current mall and developers aim to have 95% complete in time for the
2010 Soccer World Cup. The expansion is also just in time for the business that the Mushroom
Park Gautrain Station, a stop en-route to and from O.R. Tambo International Airport, will bring
the retail centre.
Both retailers and consumers can anticipate that these two developments will bring exciting
new shopping opportunities to Gauteng – and can be further reassured that the Compliments Card
will be accepted as means of payment at both.
